My husband took his Jeep Liberty to Prossers last month for a computer issue. He asked how much they would charge to diagnose it only. They told him it’s a $50 charge to diagnose. We were very happy with their services at that time. After giving us the correct information, and charging $50, my husband was able to pick up the Jeep and fix it himself. The Jeep began having more problems last week. Again, he took it to Prossers. After looking at the Jeep for a few days, they called my husband with a diagnosis and and estimate for repair. Because of the repair costs, my husband decided to pick up the Jeep and again fix it on his own. When he went to pick it up, he was charged $210 for them only to look at it!! Their explanation was that it took 8 hours to diagnose. If this was the case, we should have been given a call stating the the charges would be significantly above the typical $50 fee and asked if we wanted them to proceed. I was shocked at the price to only have them look at the Jeep. And am extremely disappointed of a surprise bill for $200. I’m sure they they are excellent mechanics but their communication is lacking at best. We thought we had found a dependable shop but u fortunately we’ll be looking elsewhere.
Sorry for the miscommunication on our part. We worked on your Jeep in January when the Diagnostic fee was $49.50. We were years overdue for an increase of our Diagnostic fees. February 1st the Diagnostic fee went up to $119.50 due to training and equipment costs. We have 3 scanners at a cost of $10,000.00 each, plus several other diagnostic tools. So that only leaves $62.86 for all the labor time we had invested plus taxes and job supplies, that's only 40 minutes of labor time. As you stated we had hours invested. I was away for shop training but I was informed of the service work that was performed by my service manager. It was explained to me just like you stated. We talked to your husband and told him it was going to take extra time but never gave a figure. That is totally on us. We have discussed your situation and resolved that misunderstanding for all of our guests in the future. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and Thank You very much for your business. We would love to welcome future business with you and your husband. Eric Prosser
